How does IPL Hair Removal Work?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses controlled pulses of light to target the pigment within the hair. The light energy converts to heat within the follicle, helping to disrupt the hair growth cycle and reduce future hair growth.
Light Targets the Hair
IPL uses pulses of light which are attracted to the pigment (melanin) within the hair.
Heat Reaches the Follicle
The light energy converts to heat, travelling down the hair and heating the follicle.
The Follicle is Targeted
This heat targets the follicle, helping to prevent it from producing hair as effectively.
Hair Growth Reduces
Because IPL only targets hairs in the active growth stage, a course of treatments is needed for long-term hair reduction.
Is IPL Hair Reduction Right For Me?
IPL can be a fantastic option for long-term reduction of unwanted hair, but it isn’t suitable for every hair or skin type.
Your free consultation includes a patch test, allowing me to assess your skin and hair and make sure IPL is suitable for you before starting treatment.
Hair Colour
IPL works by targeting pigment within the hair, so it works best on darker hair.
It is not effective on white, grey, blonde or very fair hair.
Skin Type
At HAZE Beauty I offer IPL hair reduction for Fitzpatrick skin types 1–4.
Your skin type will be assessed during your consultation before any treatment begins.
Hormonal Hair Growth
IPL can be particularly helpful for unwanted facial hair associated with hormonal changes such as menopause or PCOS.
Results vary, and ongoing maintenance treatments may sometimes be needed.

What to Expect from IPL Hair Reduction

Consultation & Patch Test
Your free consultation is used to discuss your hair reduction goals, assess your skin and hair, and check suitability. A patch test is required at least 48 hours before your first treatment.

Prepare for Treatment
Shave the treatment area before your appointment and avoid waxing, plucking or epilating between treatments. You’ll also need to follow the tanning and sun-exposure guidance given at consultation

Your IPL Treatment
A layer of cooling gel is applied before controlled pulses of light are delivered to the treatment area. Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated.

Your Treatment Course
Most clients need a course of treatments because IPL works on hairs during their active growth stage. Facial areas are usually treated every 4–6 weeks and body areas every 6–8 weeks.

How Many IPL Treatments Will I Need?
Most clients need a course of treatments because IPL can only target hairs effectively when they are in the active growth stage.
For facial hair, treatments are usually spaced around 4–6 weeks apart, while body areas are generally treated every 6–8 weeks.
A course of around 8–12 treatments is commonly recommended, although this varies depending on the treatment area, hair growth, hormones and your individual response.
We’ll monitor your progress throughout your course and adjust your treatment plan where needed.

Your safety and suitability are always assessed before treatment. IPL carries potential risks including skin irritation, burns, blistering and changes in pigmentation. A consultation and patch test are required at least 48 hours before treatment, and you’ll be given personalised pre- and post-treatment guidance.
Risks of IPL hair removal
Safety is always a priority at HAZE Beauty and I will make you aware of the potential risks before treatment so you can make an informed decision.
IPL can carry risks including skin irritation, burns, blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, bruising and changes in pigmentation. Certain medications, skincare products, tanning and sun exposure can also increase your risk of a reaction.
This is why your consultation and patch test are so important. Please keep me updated about any changes to your health, medication, supplements or skincare throughout your treatment course.

Before & After Your IPL Treatment
Before treatment: Shave the treatment area as advised and avoid waxing, plucking or epilating between appointments. Follow the tanning, sun exposure and skincare guidance provided during your consultation.
After treatment: Avoid excessive heat and sun exposure and use SPF on exposed treated areas. You’ll receive personalised aftercare advice following your treatment.
