7 Benefits of Regular Massage

7 Benefits of Regular Massage (That Go Beyond Relaxation)

By Becky Arnold | HAZE Beauty Bournemouth

When most people think of massage, they think of relaxation. And while that’s certainly one of the biggest benefits, massage can do so much more than simply help you unwind.

Whether you’re dealing with everyday stress, aching muscles, headaches or simply feeling run down, regular massage can have a positive impact on both your body and your wellbeing.

As a multi-award winning massage therapist, I’ve seen first-hand how making massage part of a regular self-care routine can help people feel better physically and mentally. Here are seven reasons why.

1

Relieves Muscle Tension & Aches

If you spend hours sitting at a desk, driving, lifting children or exercising regularly, it’s completely normal for muscles to become tight and uncomfortable.

Massage helps to ease tension, improve flexibility and reduce those stubborn knots that can build up over time.

Many of my clients tell me they hadn’t realised just how tense they were until they got off the massage bed feeling lighter and able to move more freely.

2

Helps Reduce Stress

Life is busy.

We’re constantly juggling work, family, responsibilities and endless notifications.

Massage gives you permission to switch off for an hour.

During a treatment, your body naturally begins to relax, breathing slows and many people leave feeling calmer than they have in weeks.

It’s amazing what sixty minutes without your phone can do.

3

Can Improve Your Sleep

One thing I hear all the time is:

“I slept so well after my massage.”

When your muscles are relaxed and your mind has had chance to slow down, quality sleep often follows.

Better sleep means better recovery, more energy and feeling more like yourself.

4

Improves Circulation

Massage encourages healthy blood around the body.

Improved circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and tissues, supporting the body’s natural healing processes.

5

May Reduce Headaches

Many headaches actually begin with tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and upper back.

While massage isn’t a cure for every type of headache, reducing muscle tension can often help decrease how frequently they occur or how intense they feel.

6

Supports Overall Wellbeing

Looking after yourself isn’t selfish.

We often wait until we’re exhausted or in pain before booking a massage, but regular treatments can help you stay on top of stress before it starts affecting your body.

Think of massage like servicing your car.

You wouldn’t wait for the engine to fail before looking after it.

Your body deserves the same care

7

Time Just for You

This is probably my favourite benefit.

For one hour, nobody needs anything from you.

No emails.

No washing.

No school runs.

No work.

Just quiet time to recharge.

Sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

How often should I have a massage?

This is probably one of the questions I’m asked most.

The answer depends on your lifestyle and what you’re hoping to achieve.

If you’re experiencing ongoing muscle tension or discomfort, more regular treatments may be beneficial to begin with.

If you’re simply looking to relax and maintain your wellbeing, many people find that having a massage every 4–6 weeks helps them feel their best.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and I’m always happy to recommend a treatment plan based on your individual needs.
