Treatments (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle, specialised massage technique using slow, light and rhythmic movements to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid around the body.
Unlike a traditional massage, MLD doesn’t use deep pressure. The movements are deliberately gentle and many of my clients find the treatment incredibly relaxing.
MLD may be particularly helpful for people experiencing swelling, fluid build-up or feelings of heaviness, and it can also form part of an appropriate post-operative recovery plan.
Please note: The MLD I offer at HAZE is traditional, gentle Manual Lymphatic Drainage. It is not Brazilian lymphatic drainage, sculpting or body-contouring massage and I do not use wooden tools.
MLD Treatment Options
30 minutes – £35
Ideal for focused treatment of one area.
60 minutes – £60
Suitable for two to three areas or when more treatment time is required.
90 minutes – £80
A longer treatment allowing time for full-body MLD where appropriate.
Your treatment will always be tailored to your individual needs following consultation.
10-treatment post-operative packages are also available – pay for 9 treatments and receive your 10th treatment included.
What can MLD be used for?
Depending on your individual circumstances, MLD may be used to help with:
- Swelling and fluid build-up
- Feelings of heaviness or puffiness
- Supporting appropriate post-operative aftercare
- Lymphatic swelling
- Gentle relaxation and wellbeing
If you have unexplained or persistent swelling and have not already had it medically assessed, I may recommend speaking to your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional before treatment.

Post-Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage Packages in Bournemouth
If you’ve been advised that Manual Lymphatic Drainage is appropriate following surgery, I offer individual treatments as well as packages of 10 appointments.
MLD may form part of post-operative care following procedures including liposuction, tummy tuck and some breast or cosmetic surgeries, particularly where swelling is present.
Your surgeon’s advice always comes first. The appropriate time to begin MLD and the number or frequency of treatments required will depend on your procedure, recovery and individual circumstances.
Rather than automatically recommending the same treatment schedule to everybody, I’ll discuss your needs with you and work around the aftercare guidance you’ve been given.
If you know you’d like MLD following an upcoming procedure, please contact me once your surgery date is confirmed. Post-operative clients can sometimes require several appointments within a relatively short period, so arranging these in advance gives me the best chance of accommodating you.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

It can be, but this depends on the surgery you’ve had and your individual recovery.
MLD is sometimes incorporated into aftercare following procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck and certain breast or cosmetic surgeries.
Always follow your surgeon’s advice about when it is safe and appropriate to begin treatment.
How soon after surgery can I have MLD?
There isn’t one timeframe that’s right for everyone.
It depends on the procedure, how you’re healing and the instructions you’ve been given by your surgeon or medical team.

How many post-operative MLD treatments will I need?
This varies considerably.
Some clients may only require a small number of treatments while others may have MLD more regularly during their recovery.
I’ll never automatically put everyone on the same schedule. Your treatment plan should reflect your individual recovery and any guidance you’ve received from your surgeon.
Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage hurt?
MLD uses very gentle, light movements and shouldn’t feel like a deep massage.
Most clients find it extremely relaxing — despite sometimes arriving convinced that something so gentle can’t possibly be doing anything 😂
Can MLD help with fluid retention and bloating?
MLD is designed to encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid and some clients choose it when experiencing fluid build-up, puffiness or feelings of heaviness.
However, bloating can have many different causes, so MLD isn’t a treatment for every type of bloating.
Can MLD help during menopause?
Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect how some women feel in their bodies, including changes in fluid retention.
Some clients choose MLD because they enjoy the gentle treatment and find it relaxing when they’re feeling puffy or heavy.
It isn’t a treatment for menopause itself, but it can be incorporated into your wider wellbeing routine where appropriate.
Is MLD suitable for everyone?
No.
There are circumstances where MLD may need to be adapted, postponed or may not be appropriate at all. I’ll review your consultation before treatment and may ask you to seek medical advice or clearance where necessary.
Can I have MLD if I have an infection?
No. Treatment should be postponed if you have an active infection or are acutely unwell.
If this occurs following surgery, contact your medical team and wait until you’ve been advised that it’s safe to resume treatment.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you’re comfortable in. Loose clothing can be particularly helpful following surgery.
You’ll only uncover the areas necessary for treatment and you’ll remain appropriately covered throughout your appointment.

Treatments are completely one-to-one and available in 30, 60 and 90-minute appointments.
