When choosing to start IPL hair removal, you will have a 1:1 consultation and patch test to ensure that having this treatment is right for you.
IPL hair removal is not effective on white/grey, blonde or very fair hair. This is because the IPL is drawn to the pigment in the hair, the darker your hair, the better your result will be.
I am able to treat people with skin fitzpatrick types 1-4.

How does IPL hair removal work?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light and it emits multiple wave lengths of light. The light is attracted to the dark pigment in the hair shaft and follicle. The pigment absorbs the light and converts it into heat, this heat then damages the hair follicle at the root. When enough hair reaches the bulb, the follicle becomes unable to regrow hair normally. Over a course of treatments the damage accumulates and leads to long term hair reduction.
Why is a course of treatments needed?
Only hairs in the active growth phase contain enough pigment and are still attached to the follicle. This stage is called Anagen and only 10-20% of your hairs are in this stage of growth at a time. This is why multiple sessions (usually 6-12 on average) are required, and spaced 4-8 weeks apart depending on the area.
Patch tests and what to look out for:
You will need to have a patch test and consultation a minimum of 48 hours before an IPL hair removal treatment. This is so I can assess your suitability for treatment, discuss your treatment aims and I can explain how the treatment works and answer any questions you may have. I will run through any instructions on what to do before coming for treatments and what to do after treatments. I will take photos of the treatment area before each treatment so we can track progress.
I will determine your skin Fitzpatrick type and test out a few different settings on the machine to see if I get a "reaction" which means the treatment settings are correct for your skin and hair type. I will ask you how its feeling and make sure you aren't feeling too much heat or discomfort.
After the patch test you will need to look out for any symptoms of a burn such as excessive heat, bruises or redness that lasts for a few days, pigmentation, bruising. If there any signs of this then please contact me and I will assess. If you are concerned then please seek medical assistance.

Risks of IPL hair removal
Safety is always a priority at HAZE Beauty and I will always make you aware of the risks of treatment so you can make an informed choice.
You will always have a patch test atleast 48 hours before your first treatment.
There are many risks of IPL treatment but you can minimise them by following pre and post treatment advice.
Risks can include burns, blisters, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, bruising, photosensitivity issues due to certain medication & skincare. This is why a patch test is so important and why you need to keep me updated if your medication or health changes.
Things that can increase your risks are - tanning, having heat treatments/hot baths etc before or after your treatment, taking medication which can make you photo sensitive, using skincare which has retinoids, steroids, acids, active ingredients, vitamin A or vitamin C supplements, St Johns Wort. We will discuss all of this during your consultation.
Aftercare Instructions
* Avoid heat treatments, excessive heat & sun exposure 48 hours
* Apply a good quality SPF 50 to any treatment areas every day if exposed to sunlight.
If treatment area feels warm after treatment, apply a cool compress or flannel to soothe.
Shave as needed between treatments but strictly no waxing or tweezing the hairs. The hair needs to in the follicle for the beam of light to target it.
No acids, retinols or skincare with active ingredients to be used on treatment area for at least 7 days before and after treatments.
